Repairing Frizzy, Curly, Dry Damaged Hair
November 13, 2008
There are so many us who continually struggle with dry damaged hair, frizzy hair, curly hair that just won’t cooperate, and the list goes on and on. There are scads of products out there that say they are just right for the problem, however, not all of the products do what they say they will, or what we really want them to do. Some of us buy flat irons to straighten our hair with the hopes that after straightening our hair will not look frizzy and shine. Well…….in addition to straightening our hair, could we possibly try some home remedies that just might work? There are in fact some home remedies that people have tried and this article will introduce some of them for you.
Conditioners are something that everyone uses to control frizzy hair. Usually we put the conditioner on our hair while in the shower and only leave it on long enough to wash our bodies, and then we rinse it out. How about the next time you aren’t in a big hurry to get ready for work or go out, leave the conditioner in your hair and wrap your hair in a towel. Leave the towel on for an extra 15-20 minutes before finally rinsing out the conditioner. This extra conditioning time just might provide the extra conditioning you need. While it may not completely solve the problem, it certainly won’t hurt to give your hair that extra conditioning at least once a week.
Another option is to use your favorite mousse and comb it through your hair. Let your hair air dry and do not run your fingers or a comb through your hair until its completely dry. If you need to dry your hair because you want it straight, use your dryer, however only use the cool setting.
Many times the trick to controlling frizzy hair lies with the haircut. Asking your stylist to use thinning scissors to thin your hair will sometimes prevent, or at least control frizzy hair.
Have you tried hot oil treatments that are sold for dry and damaged hair. This may be a temporary fix and you will probably need to use the treatments on a weekly or biweekly basis.
What about some natural remedies? Dry frizzy hair lacks moisture and obviously needs to be replenished. Start drinking more water as it will help hydrate your entire body, including your hair. If you don’t already use olive oil in your diet, add it now. Olive oil will not only help in the elasticity of your skin, but it will also add vibrancy to your hair.
Over a weekend or when you have time off, a natural oil treatment for the hair will help out in the damaged or dull hair arena.
Have you ever tried Soap Nuts Powder? This powder is prepared from dried fruit of Soap Nuts. You can use it as a hair application to make your hair shiny?
Emu Oil and Jojoba Oil can also help dry or frizzy hair. They can be found in shampoos and also in pure oil forms. Emu oil is very rich in omega 3’s and essential fatty acids. Due to the oil’s deep penetrating ability, it can super hydrate not just your hair but your scalp and skin as well.
How about Rosemary Hair Oil? If you combine this with clover blossoms and burdock root it will deep condition your hair and help with dry or frizzy hair. You may use this as a re-conditioning pack for your split ends, or you can apply it sparingly after washing. You should combine Burdock Root, Peanut Oil, Clover Blossom, Lavendar, and Rosemary in equal portions.
Lastly, if you want to really go with some home style remedies the following natural treatments take time but may be very well worth the effort:
For Damaged or Dull Hair
1) Using warm water, moisten your hair and gently massage a generous amount of refined oil (sesame or apricot oil) into your hair and scalp.
2) Place a plastic shower cap over your hair and then wrap a warm towel around your head. Leave these on for at least 1 hour.
3) Apply a mixture of fuller’s earth to your scalp and hair and leave it on for 30 minutes.
4) Using tepid water, rinse all of the mud from the hair and shampoo as usual.
5) Next towel dry your hair and apply a generous amount of refined oil on your hair. Using a wide-tooth comb, comb the oil through your hair and then let your hair dry naturally.
For Split Ends

2) Next wrap your hair with a towel that has been dipped in hot water for 30 minutes.
3) Using a mixture of fuller’s earth and yogurt (buttermilk for oily hair), wash your hair.
