Every summer my husband and I pack up our Winnebago and hit the road to explore a different part of North America. Last year we decided to venture south to Guatemala and Belize, but this year we’re keeping our expedition confined to the contiguous US. My husband carped incessantly last time about how much I packed, so I’ve made a concerted effort to lighten my load this time.

I only packed 52 outfits for the three weeks this year, as opposed to the 88 I brought last time. Typically, I have three extra bags for all of my cosmetics and accessories but I invested in travel hot rollers and other compact items, cutting it down to just one bag. My packing may sound a bit excessive, but I like to be comfortable and look my best on vacation—who doesn’t?
