The Right Shampoo For The Right Hair Type

Author: Hairdo4U November 17, 2009

shampoo-bottles-fbHave you ever noticed just how many shampoos are on the shelf when you are shopping in the local drug stores, beauty supply stores, hair salons, and even online?  There appears to be one for every type hair and then some.  How do you possibly know which is the right shampoo to buy for your particular hair?  You can get advice from your hair stylist and typically it will be some brand that they sell in their salon.  That is not a bad thing as long as you can afford what it is that they are recommending.  Sometimes when you go in a beauty supply store a clerk can offer some suggestions to you as well.  Or, you can try to select something on your own wherever it is that you end up shopping for the shampoo, however, a few basic tips are helpful in this process.

So, what exactly is an easy way to find a good shampoo?  For starters, as long as you know your hair type, that will narrow the number you have to sift through.   Your budget will also narrow the margin of selections.

Generally speaking for all hair types you will want to find shampoos that do not contain any alcohol in them as this adds to the drying out of your hair.  If your hair is thin or fine, you will want to find a shampoo that provides volume and body.  For curly hair, it is best to try to find a shampoo that is specifically designed for curly hair.  Curly hair can tend to be somewhat on the unmanageable side and frizzy.  It is best to look for a shampoo that has built-in moisturizes that will help tame your hair.  For dry or course hair you also want to look for a shampoo that has a built-in moisturizer.  The ingredients in these type shampoos are called emollients or humectants.  An emollient is an oily substance that will slick over your hair strands to help moisturize and protect the hair.  A humectant is a water-retaining substance that will slick over your hair to help draw and retain water in your hair to keep it moisturized.
